Here we are with another essential item for university, a good power bank. Although it is often overlooked, as we will se later this will come in very handy for everyday uni life.

In this post we will have a look at the best power banks for university in the UK. Before going through the list, we will also briefly outline how to choose a good one for your student needs.

What is a good power bank for university?

Let’s go through some of the characteristics you need to take into account. These were used to put together our list of best power banks for university that you will find later:

1. Powerful

The first point to consider is obviously the power. It needs to be powerful enough to fully charge your laptop at least once if not more, and your tablet & mobile phone multiple times throughout the day.

This is the most common mistake students make when buying a power bank for university. They buy one which doesn’t have enough milliampere-hour (mAh) for a laptop.

A full day at university means your laptop will be used quite a lot. From watching lecture recordings and material to writing essays and assignments.

Moreover, it is quite normal to take regular breaks between study sessions and watch your favourite tv series or just chill on YouTube (don’t let it get out of hands though!)

Unless your laptop is brand new (and even so), it is most likely that you will to charge it at least once a day if not more.

In all that, what about your phone? From listening to music to scrolling social media, a good power bank will also allow you charge your phone quite often.

Do you see now the importance of having a powerful one? You don’t need it for only one recharge of your devices, but instead for multiple ones.

So how powerful does a power bank need to be for university?

For our list of best power banks we only considered those with a minimum of 26800mAh. This would be enough to fully charge a laptop at least once (or more depending on your specific machine), as well having spare power to charge devices such as tablets and mobile phones multiple times.

2. Size & Weight (portability)

Your backpack might get quite heavy at times if you consider everything you need for a day at university (e.g. laptop, notepads, textbooks, clothes, umbrella, water bottle and so on).

A power bank is great as it takes away the burden of all those individual chargers and cables. However, a big and heavy power bank is not ideal at all, you might as well bring all your chargers with you in that case.

Therefore, a good power bank for university needs to be small and compact. This will make it easier to carry around in your backpack without putting too much additional weight.

Luckily, technology is now at a point where most power banks, even the more powerful ones, come in a reasonable size and weight.

In any case, for our list we only considered power banks that weight around the 500gr. As well as being lighter than all individual device chargers, having only one power bank for all is significantly less messy in your backpack!

3. Price & Quality

Lastly, these are other very important aspects to cover. We all know that students are quite sensitive to price, and rightly so.

However, the market has been literally flooded with cheap (and often poor quality) products to target price sensitive categories such as university students.

Although this might accommodate some immediate needs, always remember that university is a long journey.

Quality matters, you don’t want to fall into the “buy cheap buy twice” category and be forced to purchase another power bank after few times of using one!

On the other hand, there is no need to spend a crazy amount of money for a power bank, you can still get a good quality one at a reasonable price.

For our list o best power banks for university we have only included products that we identified as value for money.
